Honorary Fellowship to the International College of Dentists (ICD)
24th March 2022
Elizabeth (Liz) Webb (New Zealand Dental Therapist of the Year 2021) has been appointed as an Honorary Fellowship to the International College of Dentists (ICD). This is in recognition of Liz’s leadership and outstanding contribution as a dental professional in the ICD Australasian region.
Sections or the governing body of the ICD may confer Honorary Fellowship upon an individual, other than a member of the College and not necessarily a dentist, who has rendered conspicuous service to the cause of dental science or has contributed to the promotion of the dental profession.
This is a huge achievement as the ICD is a leading honour society for dentists dedicated to the recognition of outstanding professional achievement and meritorious service and the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of all humankind. Fellowship in the College is by invitation only and is granted in recognition of a dentist’s leadership and substantial contributions to the profession and to oral health in the community beyond what is expected of a dentist in his/her discipline or arena of practice.
The New Zealand Oral Health Association - Te Ohu Pūniho Ora o Aotearoa (NZOHA) is very proud of Liz’s achievement and applaud her outstanding dedication and work in the oral health community. “This Honorary Fellowship to the ICD for Liz is a massive achievement not only for the dental profession, but also for the people of the Pacific, particularly Vanuatu. Liz has been instrumental in establishing community driven dental health prevention programmes in Vanuatu and the wider Pacific and we are constantly amazed with how she approaches this mahi with enthusiasm and dedication” says NZOHA President Anna Holyoake.
“Liz is the third dental therapist in Aotearoa to gain a PhD (Victoria University of Wellington) with Dr Susan Moffat (University of Otago) and Dr Helen Tane (Charles Sturt University – Australia) being the others to attain this enormous achievement. The NZOHA recognises Liz being the first dental therapist being given Honorary Fellowship to the ICD and tautoko this decision by the ICD Australasia Section Board. Ngā mihi nui ki a koe Dr Liz!”
