NZOHA Mentorship Programme
Supporting professional growth through connection
Whether you're a newly graduated clinician finding your feet or an experienced oral health professional looking for guidance with your professional development, you don't have to navigate it alone.
The NZOHA Mentorship Programme connects members with experienced colleagues who can offer encouragement, share knowledge and provide professional peer support.
Through mentorship, we aim to strengthen connections across the oral health profession, build confidence and support ongoing professional growth.
Looking for a mentor or professional peer?
Having someone to talk things through with can make a real difference, particularly when you're starting your career, navigating new challenges or planning your ongoing professional development.
Our volunteer mentors bring a range of knowledge and experience across dental therapy, dental hygiene and oral health therapy, with members based throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
A mentor or professional peer may be able to help you:
Build confidence as you transition from study into clinical practice.
Discuss professional challenges and share experiences.
Navigate the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ) recertification programme.
Develop and reflect on your professional development plan and activities.
Connect with colleagues and build your professional network.

Become a volunteer mentor
Sharing your experience could make a meaningful difference to another oral health professional.
We're inviting NZOHA members who are willing to support colleagues through mentorship or professional peer relationships to join our volunteer mentor pool.
You don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes the greatest value comes from being a sounding board, sharing your experiences and helping another clinician reflect on their professional journey.
As a volunteer mentor, you can:
Support newly graduated clinicians as they transition into practice.
Help colleagues reflect on their professional development goals.
Share practical knowledge and professional experience.
Build connections across the profession.
Contribute to a supportive and collaborative oral health community.
Mentors will also be invited to participate in an optional online workshop covering practical mentoring guidance and professional development planning.

How does the programme work?
1. Register your interest
Volunteer mentors complete the registration form, while members seeking support can contact NZOHA directly.
2. Finding the right match
NZOHA works with mentors and mentees to identify a suitable match, considering location, scope of practice, professional interests and availability.
3. Connect and grow
Once matched, mentors and mentees can connect, share experiences and work together on areas where support or guidance would be valuable.
